Control
Panel
The NYIC Control Panel
provides an easy to use interface for our clients to manage their web sites.
All panels are supported by individual help files and a convenient help
index. Some of the features include:
E-mail Forwarding, E-mail Aliasing, Autoresponders, Mailbox Management,
Detailed Site Statistics, Referrer Logs, Real Audio Statistics, Perl script
checkers, Rapid Search Engine Registration, E-mail form generator, Password
Protected Directories with user management, Anonymous FTP Uploading directory
E-mail Services and Settings
E-mail Aliasing/Forwarding enables you to make up your
own email names @yourdomain.com and have email addressed to these
names automatically forwarded to any email address of your choosing. For
example, you can create an email forwarding address such as sales@mycompany.com
and set this address up so that whenever anyone sends email to sales@mycompany.com,
persons A, B and C each receive a copy of this email. The email addresses
for A, B and C can be anywhere on the Internet, not just at NYIC or at
yourcompany.com.
These email forwarding lists
are sometimes referred to as aliases when the list consists of a
single recipient at your own domain. For example, if you want mail directed
to sales@mycompany.com and joe@mycompany.com to both be directed
to the mailbox joe@mycompany.com you would set up the alias sales
to point to the mailbox joe.
Every Web Site at NYIC has
up to 50 email alias/forwarding lists.
Autoresponders give you the
ability to automatically send a file to anyone when they send an empty
email message to an autoresponder email address. For example, you
can set up an autoresponder email address of info@mycompany.com
and whenever anyone sends email to info@mycompany.com, they will
automatically be emailed a file created by you and placed on your web site.
This is a handy method of reaching people who have email but no web access,
or who do not use web browsers.
Mailbox Management.
The NYIC control Panel has a handy email management facility that enables
you to make any changes you like to your email setting at any time of the
day or night without having to contact NYIC.
Detailed Statistics
Web Site Statistics
With our customizable statistics program, you
can retrieve information on how many hits your website receives,
how many people visit, when they visit, and which computer
network they come from.
Referrer Statistics
The Referrer Statistics can be very useful in showing you where your website
visitors are coming from when they link to your website via some other
site on the Web. You can see a summary of each domain that points to your
website together with the pages the pointers are located in and the pages
on your site that are pointed to. You can visit the referring pages and
sites simply by clicking on the link in your summary output.
RealAudio/Video Stream Tracker
With our unique RealAudio/Video stream tracker, you can
see how many people have listened to or watched each of your content files.
You can also track bandwith and time usage per file and see how many simultaneous
users are listening/watching at any instant -- right down to five-minute
time increments.
Password-protected Directories
NYIC clients can
quickly and easily create "Members Only" directories that are
protected by a Username and Password. The creation of the controlled-access
directories and the user lists is entirely under your control via the NYIC
Control Panel.
ShellAccess
All clients have
UNIX shell access to their websites. Clients can telnet into their website
from any computer and test/edit scripts or HTML files with standard UNIX
editors. If required, clients can also perform certain systems-level functions
such as directory permission changes, etc.
Microsoft Frontpage Support
NYIC supports both
Frontpage '97 and the new Frontpage
'98 web authoring programs from Microsoft. Frontpage provides an easy
way to design and update your website. It also has convenient web bots
such as a search engine, that enable you to implement certain functions
on your website that normally require sophisticated programming.
RealAudio/RealVideo
RealAudio/RealVideo
is a streaming technology from Real
Networks that enables visitors to your WEB site to listen to audio
or watch videos in real time using a server streaming technology.
You can make use of our RealAudio/RealVideo server at no additional charge
(with the Presence Plan
and above) in order to add real-time multi-media appeal to your site.
RealAudio can sound close
to CD-quality if the listener has a fast enough modem. You can provide
either mono or stereo audio content with RealAudio -- stereo sounds better,
but it requires a faster modem on the listener's end. RealVideo enables
you to deliver simultaneous video and audio content over the Internet.
Secure Server
Using the NYIC
Secure Server you can provide a safe environment to accept credit card
information from your customers. This allows you to sell your products
or services over the Internet, with the highest level of security available.
Excite Search Engine
The Excite Search
engine allows you to provide your site visitors with a quick and easy way
to search for information contained within your site. Click here
to go to the Excite Search page of a site hosted by NYIC.
Message Board & Chat
Our Message Board
and Chat features are provided by O'Reilly's Webboard.
The message board allows you to create individual conferences and manage
the users that have access to each conference. The real-time chat feature
uses Javascript to allow your web site visitors to conduct live chat sessions
with each other and with you.
Cold Fusion
Cold
Fusion (v3.1) is a database application that runs under Windows NT.
It provides a convenient way to connect to your web database via an ODBC
connection. For more detailed information about this application you can
visit Allaire.
Active Server Pages
Active
Server Pages (ASP), is an open, compile-free application environment
in which you can combine HTML pages, scripts, and ActiveX server components
to create powerful Web-based business solutions.
NYIC supports a unique hybrid
web-hosting system, whereby we support both UNIX and NT functions for your
website. Your website main area is hosted on a UNIX server, but we also
set up a link to an NT server so that you can make use of IIS-specific
features such as Active Server Pages and MSSQL.
Cyber Cash
Cybercash
enables you to verify credit card orders in real-time over the internet.
It also provides a convenient front end for processing credit transactions.
Microsoft SQL Server
If you are interested
in full integration of your large database with your Internet presence
you will find our Microsoft
SQL Server perfect for your requirements.
Virtual Host
A Virtual Host is
a computer name that appears as though it is a dedicated host when it is
not. At NYIC (and all other web hosting companies), it is not cost-effective
to place only 1 website on a computer. Normally, many websites reside on
a computer, each having it's own distinct name such as www.abc.com.
To enable your web site to appear as though it is on it's own computer,
a virtual host has to be contructed for that website name. The public
can not tell the difference between a a virtual host website and and a
dedicated host website. This enables companies that want to host a web
site to use a unique computer name such as www.mycompany.com
and to look as impressive as large companies with their own dedicated servers.
Post Office Protocol Version 3 (POP3)
NYIC's email server
supports POP3 email access for NYIC clients. This means that you can read
your email using any POP3-compliant email program such as EUDORA
and the clients that come with the newer versions of Netscape and Microsoft
Explorer, as well as a host of other programs. Each POP3 mailbox has it's
own user ID and password, enabling you to provide private email for your
employees at surprisingly low cost.
The number of
mailboxes that are available to you depends upon the web hosting
PLAN
you choose (Budget, Presence, Professional, Merchant or Real-Time).
CGI Autoexec
This is a special
feature available to the clients of the New York Internet Center. It was
created for clients who decide to write their own CGI scripts. This program
scans through each of our client's directories for [CGI] files and automatically
makes them executable.
Additional Storage
Additional storage
may be acquired at 50 cents per MB in 10MB blocks ($5).
Additional Bandwith
Additional bandwith
costs 4 cents per MB and is calculted on a calendar month basis.
Additional Mailboxes
Additional POP3 mailboxes
cost $2 per month.
Dial-up Service
Clients of the New
York Internet Center are entitled to privileged dial-up access. This service
is available only in the (212) area code. Priviliged access includes up
to 60 HOURS of either modem (56K flex) or ISDN (one channel) access per
month. Additional hours are billed at $1 PER HOUR.
