ASP (Application Service Provider) is rapidly becoming a viable technology that is likely to change the face of office computing.

Traditionally, businesses purchase software packages and install them on individual computers. These applications need to be maintained and upgraded when necessary. The effort and cost involved can be considerable when there are many workstations involved.

Using the ASP approach, businesses run their applications on a central server over a high-speed network. In this way, businesses do not have the high up-front costs of purchasing packages and package upgrades; instead they pay a monthly rental fee to use the software. They also save on software administration costs as the software is maintained by the ASP and not by the end user.

ASP technology is in its infancy and many major applications have not yet been modified to be used in this manner; however NYIC is committed to offering ASP services for individual programs as soon as they become available.

We can offer our customers high speed SDSL connections (up to 2MB) directly to our servers which means that throughput to the client computers would be similar to what one would experience with a server directly connected to the LAN.

Currently, NYIC can offer customized database applications using one of our high-end SQL servers. For example, you could import your entire inventory into a server in the NYIC network; you could then access your database directly via a high-speed connection, as though your were accessing it on your own network. But the important difference is that you would be able to provide the same level of access or partial access to anyone connected to the Internet via our high-speed T3 Internet connection.
